When we launched our first fund, we assumed there'd be a platform for people like us. A clean, modern tool that handled the basics — data rooms, LP updates, portfolio tracking, deal pipeline — without needing a six-figure budget or a full-time ops hire. We were wrong. What we found instead was a fragmented mess of point solutions, each solving one piece of the puzzle while ignoring everything else.

So we cobbled it together ourselves, like every other emerging manager does. DocSend for sharing the pitch deck. Visible.vc for LP reporting. Streak for deal flow because Affinity was $15K/year. Google Sheets for portfolio tracking. Carta for the cap table — $600 a month for a tool we opened twice a quarter. We were paying over $1,500 a month in software costs before we'd even made our first investment. And when it came time to send quarterly reports, we'd lose two full weeks pulling data from five different systems, formatting it in Google Docs, and emailing PDFs one-by-one while Sequoia's LPs were logging into branded portals with real-time dashboards.

The breaking point was an LP meeting where we got asked a simple question about portfolio-wide burn rates, and it took us three days to pull the answer. Three days. For a number that should have been one click away. We left that meeting knowing there had to be a better way — and if nobody was going to build it, we would.

Archstone is the result. Not a cap table tool that bolted on reporting. Not an enterprise platform dumbed down for small funds. It's a purpose-built operating system for the $3M–$100M emerging manager — seven modules in one platform, with an AI layer that actually does the work instead of just chatting about it. We built it for ourselves first. Now we're building it for every GP running the same grind.
